The continuous beating of drums and a room filled with people in traditional Native American regalia helped visitors feel immersed in the multi-tribe powwow event held Saturday, May 30, at Lebanon High School.

It was the second annual Willamette Valley Powwow, organized by the Native American Education Program of the Lebanon Community School District, coordinated by Laurie Regalado.

Going all day from noon to 10 p.m., the event featured Head Man Sam Riding In, Head Woman Ember Hudson performing a jingle dance, host drum Bad Soul, honor drum Turquoise Pride, Aztec dancers, color guard by the Grand Ronde, emcee Carlos Calica, arena director Anthony Quenelle, a potato dance special contest, and food and artisan vendors.

The inaugural event was held at Boulder Falls Event Center last year, but organizers said it quickly became apparent they’d need a bigger space for future events.
