Ray Cantrell, 85, of Sweet Home died Aug. 2, 2006 at Wiley Creek Community.
He was born in Leach, Okla., to James W. and Christina (Gordan) Cantrell. He moved to Oregon in 1940 and shortly after he entered the Army Air Force, serving in England and France.
Mr. Cantrell married Marie Simpson in 1946 in Silverton and moved to Sweet Home in 1948. They later divorced. He married Cora Tyler in July of 1977. He worked in the timber industry until his retirement from Publishers Paper in 1982.
He enjoyed raising different kinds of birds, fishing and playing/singing gospel music with the guitar and mandolin. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God.
Mr. Cantrell is survived by his children, Phyllis Wilson of Oregon City, Zelma Cantrell of Portland, Royce Cantrell of Albany, Joe Cantrell of Seattle, Keith Cantrell of Sweet Home and Debbie Wilson of Broken Arrow, Okla.; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Cora, three sisters and two brothers.
A funeral service was held at The Pentecostal Church of God in Sweet Home on Aug. 8, with burial following the service at Liberty Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Evergreen Hospice c/o Workman & Steckly Funeral Chapel.
