Creative Can-Do for Bees
Despite the threat of a little rain, children spent their morning on Friday, June 26, making shelters for mason bees at Sankey Park.
The project was part of Sweet Home Public Library’s Summer Reading Program.
Children painted empty tin cans in bright colors so that, Programming Librarian Kira Mikutaitis said, “the bees know they’re for them” because bees like bright colors.
Once dried, the cans were filled with hollow reeds where bees can tuck in their eggs for winter. Once the weather warms up, the pupa will emerge.
