The daughter of a man who has been missing for two weeks in the Marion Lake area was rescued Tuesday, July 5, by members of the Linn County Search and Rescue team.
Linn County Undersheriff Jim Yon said that at 5:30 p.m. members of Linn County Search and Rescue and Crook County Search and Rescue were conducting a follow up search in the Marion Lake area for Sanford Rice.
The Sheriff’s Department on June 29 ceased its round-the-clock search for Rice, 75, of Blachly, who disappeared June 23 while hiking in the area.
The Search and Rescue teams returned July 5 and had just established a camp for the night on the northeast side of the lake when they were contacted by three hikers needing assistance. One of the hikers, Corianne Anita Rice-Heinke, 47, of Eugene, had a serious knee injury and needed assistance to get back to the trailhead.
Rice-Heinke is the daughter of Sanford Rice.
Rice-Heinke was hiking on the northeast side of Marion Lake with two others when they encountered a large number of trees that had blown down over the trail they were hiking on. While making their way over the trees, Rice-Heinke injured her knee and was unable to continue hiking, Yon said.
Additional Linn County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue members along with the Linn County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Posse responded to the area to assist with coordinating a rescue. Rice-Heinke was returned to the trailhead at 11:50 p.m.
Her missing father, Sanford Rice, is described as a white male with white hair and a beard, blue eyes, 5 feet 7 inches tall and 160 pounds.
Those with any information regarding Rice are asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (541) 967-3911.
