SH Foundation announces grant recipients

The Sweet Home Community Foundation has announced its 2022 Community Grant recipients.

The SHCF annually awards community grants to local projects and organizations that provide lasting improvements to the Sweet Home community.

This year’s SHCF community grants of up to $2,500 each were funded through the Sweet Home Community Foundation’s long-term endowment and by the City of Sweet Home’s community grant program.

This year’s community grants were awarded in the following categories: Children and Families; Education; Livability; and Arts and Culture.

This year’s Community Grant recipients are:

— Cascade West Senior Services Foundation to fund Senior Meals/Meals on Wheels.

— Sweet Home Kids Food Pak Program.

— Sweet Home Community Pool to purchase life jackets and safety equipment.

— Sweet Home Genealogical Society for its Community Records Digital Archiving Project.

— Fair Share Gleaners for food transportation support.

— Sweet Home MANNA meals program to purchase a commercial refrigerator.

In addition to the community grants, the foundation also offers a larger grant, the Alice Blaser Memorial Grant, which awards up to $10,000 to a single larger qualifying project.

The Blaser grants are the result of a $202,000 donation made by Lou Blaser of Lebanon in 2012 to honor his late wife Alice, a teacher in Sweet Home from 1957 until 1965.

This year’s Alice Blaser Memorial Grant, $5,764, has been awarded to the Sweet Home Chamber of Commerce.

The funds will be used to purchase computer software for the chamber’s website, allowing community members to quickly view upcoming civic events, plus submit their events to be posted to the calendar.

In addition, website users can locate local vendors for goods and services.

To date, SHCF has awarded over $215,000 has been awarded to local non-profits for projects and programs.

Any individual, family or estate can establish a named endowment under the SHCF’s “Leave a Local Legacy” program. These endowments can be established over a period of time and allows the donor to direct future support into any of the foundation’s focus categories.

This program assures that a family or loved one will be permanently remembered by the community. Those wishing more information about SHCF or about establishing an endowment can visit our website at giveshcf.org or call (541) 730-3670.
