SH girls injured in fatal crash on Hwy 22

A Terrebonne man was killed in a three-vehicle crash that included two Sweet Home children on Highway 22 east of Idanha.

At approximately 4:28 p.m. on Dec. 19, a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Dorian Jospeh Dolinajec, 23, of Portland was westbound on Highway 22 near milepost 57 when it appeared to pull across the centerline as if to pass another vehicle, according to an Oregon State Police press release.

As the Jeep moved partially across the centerline, it sideswiped an eastbound 2004 Hyundai four-door with four occupants then became airborne and crashed into an eastbound 2006 Ford pickup with one occupant, police said.

The Hyundai’s driver, Robert Lee Randis, 69, of Terrebonne was pronounced dead at the scene. The vehicle’s three passengers were all transported by ambulance to Santiam Hospital in Stayton with injuries that were not life-threatening.

They included Beverly J. Randis, 67, of Terrebonne with serious injuries; Nicole Bowerman, 10, of Sweet home with serious injuries; and Karlie Jean Callin, 13, of Sweet Home with minor injuries.

Callin was home as of Monday, said her father Jeff Drummond of Redmond. She sustained cuts and bruises.

Bowerman was later transported to Oregon Health Sciences University where she was being treated for a bruised brain and lungs. Her mother, Cheryl Jones was with her on Monday.

Beverly Randis returned home on Sunday. She was bruised and sore.

Dolinajec was seriously injured and transported by air ambulance to Samaritan Albany General Hospital.

The Ford pickup’s driver, Jessie E. Always, 61, of Bend, was transported by ambulance to Samaritan Albany General Hospital with minor injuries.

All occupants were believed to be using safety restraints.

OSP troopers from the Salem Area Command office and an OSP collision reconstructionist are continuing the investigation.

Linn County Sheriff’s Office, Idanha Fire Department and Oregon Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.

The highway was blocked for about 30 minutes and then open to one lane until about 10 p.m.
