SH woman, 85, killed in Highway 20 collision

Oregon State Police troopers are continuing an investigation into a traffic crash Wednesday afternoon, April 24, that resulted in the death of a Sweet Home-area woman along Highway 20 about three miles west of Sweet Home.

According to police, LeRetta Jean Moore, 85, died after her vehicle was struck by an oncoming vehicle at Dew Road on Highway 20.

Police said the collision occurred at approximately 5:04 p.m. when Moore was driving her 2003 Chevrolet Impala westbound on the highway and pulled into a left-turn lane and, without stopping, turned left in front of a 1997

Audi driven by Tyrell Rankin, 19, of Lebanon. The vehicles collided head-on and came to rest off the side of the highway.

The victim was transported by ground ambulance to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased upon arrival.

Moore’s grandson and great-grandson, Jeromy R. Moore, 32, and Jace Moore, 10, received what police described as “minor injuries that did not require transport to the hospital.

According to police, neither Rankin nor his brother Kyle W. Rankin, 21, a passenger in the Audi, were injured.

All occupants of the vehicles were using safety restraints and both vehicles’ airbags deployed, police said.

Highway 20 was partially blocked for about two hours, but impact to traffic was minimal.

OSP troopers from the Albany and Springfield offices were involved with the scene investigation. Trooper Don Rummer is the lead investigator.
