Sierra Swanson, 17, is the daughter of Scott and Miriam Swanson.
She graduated from Sweet Home High School on June 3. She has two sisters, Carissa (Swanson) Larson, 23, and Kimber (Swanson) Parker, 21.
“I decided to join the Sportsman’s Holiday Court because I wanted to become more involved with my community, and the Sportsman’s Holiday Court is a great opportunity to become involved in activities around Sweet Home I wouldn’t have otherwise been involved in,” Swanson said.
“Sweet Home is truly beautiful, due to the gorgeous forest scenery and our very own Foster Lake,” she said. “I love how close-knit our community is and how we bond together in times of need.”
Swanson has been active throughout high school. She was the editor of The Huskian school newspaper. She was a member of the varsity cross country and track and field teams, on the junior and senior class board and has volunteered at Sweet Home Emergency Ministries. She served as a cross-age tutor at local elementary schools and participates in the Community Chapel Youth Group.
Swanson plans to attend the University of Oregon in the fall, earn a degree in English and become an English teacher.
“My goal is to obtain a bachelor’s degree in four years,” she said. “I know I’ll need to remember the eventual outcome of the hard work, which will keep my focus set on the future. I’ll need to stay dedicated and work efficiently.”
The court has been a chance for her to be involved in ways she would not otherwise, she said. “By volunteering my time to help with community events, I’m able to act as a role model in the community, and I can act as a representative for youth in Sweet Home and help encourage kids to become involved in events around town.”
