The Sweet Home girls basketball team faced a challenging week, falling to St. Helens 46-23 on Tuesday, Jan. 7, and Madras 69-47 on Friday, Jan. 10.
In Tuesday’s home game against St. Helens, the girls came out strong, with effective communication on both ends of the court. However, turnovers became a significant issue, as the Huskies struggled to keep possession of the ball, and the No. 10-ranked Lions pulled away in the second half, despite Sweet Home’s efforts to stay competitive early on.
On Friday, the Huskies traveled to Madras for a tough road game. Madras, known for its strong play, presented a considerable challenge. The Huskies kept fighting, but missed opportunities and turnovers hindered their ability to close the gap. Despite the loss, Sweet Home continued to show resilience, especially on defense, where they made things difficult for their opponents at times.
While the team went winless for the week, they have shown improvement in various areas, including their communication and defensive efforts. The girls are focused on learning from these experiences and continuing to build on their strengths as they prepare for the challenges ahead.
After a final non-league game on the road Tuesday, Jan. 14, at Siuslaw, Sweet Home will open its Oregon West campaign at home against No. 3-ranked Philomath. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
