Sweet Home Semi-Truck Collision Causes Highway Lane Closure

Traffic was delayed early Monday morning on Highway 228 west of Sweet Home after a semi-truck carrying wood chips overturned, officials said. The incident, which scattered a large load of wood chips along the highway’s edge, occurred around 8:00 a.m. but resulted in no injuries.

Fire Chief Nick Tyler of the Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District confirmed the crash was non-injury, stating, “everyone was ok.”

Emergency response teams, including the Sweet Home Police Department, Linn County Sheriff’s Office, and Oregon State Police, were on the scene alongside the fire and ambulance services to assist with the cleanup and ensure the safety of those involved.

To accommodate the cleanup efforts, traffic on Highway 228 was reduced to one lane, causing minor delays for motorists. The highway was expected to fully reopen once the debris had been cleared and the semi-truck removed.

Authorities advised drivers to be cautious when traveling through the area and to anticipate potential slowdowns throughout the morning.

As of 3:57 p.m. Highway 228 is still closed ODOT is reporting 2-3 hours longer.
