The Harrisburg All Girls tournament ended with a win for the Sweet Home wrestlers. Even with a few girls missing, the team “still dominated the tournament,” Coach Steve Thorpe said.
“It was great getting to compete against girls we will see at the regional tournament in a few weeks,” Thorpe said. “Riley Watkins and Lydia Wright both had come from behind wins in the finals to earn first place.”
The results are as
follows by weight:
110 – Alizeah Weikel (29-13) placed 2nd and scored 16.0 team points.
115 – Trinity Landtroop (19-13) placed 2nd and scored 16.0 team points.
125 – Riley Watkins (32-10) placed 1st and scored 18.0 team points.
130 – Lydia Wright (30-8) placed 1st and scored 22.0 team points.
140 – Kaylene Zajic (35-9) placed 2nd and scored 20.0 team points.
140 – Mahala Gourley-Webster (1-2) place is unknown.
145 – Lily Bishop (30-9) placed 3rd and scored 12.0 team points.

This meet was an overall positive for the SHHS girls. The ability to play regional match-ups allows the girls to see exactly who they’re competing against. With all the schools in attendance, minus Woodburn, being 4A and 3A, it led to “great head to head matchup that allowed us to learn” as Thorpe said.
Both the boys and girls teams will be back home, Jan. 25 at 5 p.m. wrestling in their Dual Meet.
Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. and will be back home playing Philomath (11-3), Jan. 26 at 5:30 p.m.
