Truck knocks out power in Foster

A commercial truck struck a power line on 54th Avenue at Osage Street Thursday, April 10, pulling down poles and knocking out electricity to the surrounding neighborhood.

The incident was reported at 12:47 p.m.

No one was injured in the accident.

Repair crews from Pacific Power and other utilities worked to restore electrical service.

Approximately 100 Pacific Power customers were without power initially, said Spokesman Tom Gauntt.

After rerouting service, 22 customers remained without power on Osage Street, Poplar Street, 54th Avenue and 53rd Avenue, until the damage was repaired.

A Cascade Timber Consulting truck driven by Lewis Perkins of Sweet Home apparently snagged a service connection across 54th Avenue to a home at the intersection of Osage and 54th, pulling down three utility poles and two transformers. The poles fell across 54th Avenue between Osage Street and Main Street, one onto the home and another on Osage Street.

One of three utility poles that fell, lays across a yard near the crash.

The truck was carrying a piece of equipment, which snagged the power line, said Police Chief Jeff Lynn. Power lines fell on an Aggregate Resources Industries pickup following the truck.

Police and Public Works crews closed 54th Avenue between Poplar Street and Quince Street and Poplar Street between 54th Avenue and 53rd Avenue to make room for buses to load students at Foster School.

Normally, the buses use Osage Street to reach the school parking lot.

The school continued operating after the crash, Lynn said, and those two closures were lifted after buses were loaded and gone for the day.

No citations were issued.
