Sweet Home’s volleyball team got off to a good start last week with 3-0 wins at home over Stayton and Central.
That set the Huskies up for matchups this week, at Cascade on Tuesday and at Philomath on Thursday.
Sweet Home 3, Central 0
Against Central, on Thursday, Sept. 8, the Huskies won 27-25, 25-19 and 25-21.
Coach Alicia Meier said the Panthers were young and, although they have “good height,” Sweet Home’s maturity showed, particularly on defense.
Annie Whifield led the Huskies with 15 digs to go with eight kills.
Brandi Trewin, in her first match back from a biceps injury, recorded six kills, while Devyn Makin had five from her right-side hitter position. Sonya Corliss added five kills and two blocks.
“We had a good night with the front row doing some good stuff,” Meier said. “We’re working on attacking a little quicker in the middle and they are really doing a good job.”
Tiffany Miller had 25 assists and “did a really good job leading the team,” Meier said. “She’s giving the hitters a chance to get at some balls.”
