Nearly 10 weeks after the boiler on the Sweet Home pool failed, repairs are nearly completed and the pool will open soon, according to district officials.
Sweet Home School District Business Manager Keven Strong said the new boiler was installed last week and the process of warming the water began this week.
The boiler “failed” during the last week of February, just as the high school swimming season ended, Strong said. He said the district ordered a new boiler from the same company, GasMaster in Delta, B.C., Canada, which built the pool’s last boiler, 13 years ago, but things didn’t go well this time.
Strong said GasMaster told the district it had to wait for a back-ordered part and the company had recently moved from one factory location to another, which pushed back the delivery time “from four to five weeks to now over nine weeks.”
The new boiler arrived in Sweet Home on May 9. It was set in place the next day and installation work began May 11.
Strong said the installation would be inspected and the pool will be re-opened “once the water is warm enough.”
District Maintenance Supervisor Josh Darwood said Tuesday, May 17, that installation was nearly complete. For information about the pool, call (541) 367-7169.
