Sweet Home’s wrestlers steamrolled Lebanon and Tigard and gave 4A foe Tillamook more than it could handle in a 48-30 win at the Lebanon Invitational Friday, Dec. 19.
“It was a night of falls,” Coach Steve Thorpe said. “There were great performances by everybody.”
Not only did his entire team get to wrestle – JV include, but the Huskies were able to build some momentum that helped them, especially against Tigard, Thorpe said.
“We’re very tough in the middle weights, 120, 126, 132, 138, 145, and to have that experience is helpful.”
Among the outstanding performances was freshman Bryce Coulter’s one-point 7-6 loss to Tillamook’s Drew Owens at 160 pounds.
“What Bryce did was wrestle his best match of the year against a senior who was a state placewinner, and he wrestled up a weight class to do it,” Thorpe said.
Sweet Home wrestles at the Westview Duals Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 29-30, and then will compete in the Todd Sherman Memorial Duals at West Albany Saturday, Jan. 3.
