Young Huskies continue to develop in tough week of boys basketball

The Huskies boys basketball team faced a challenging week last week, dropping both games, which exposed areas for growth as they continue to develop their young roster.

Reducing turnovers and improving offensive execution were emphasized as key focuses in the coming week, said head coach Drew Emmert.

The team went head-to-head with Estacada on Tuesday, Dec. 17, in a competitive matchup that ended in a 57-48 loss. Despite keeping the score close for much of the game, turnovers disrupted the Huskies’ offensive flow, allowing Estacada to capitalize on extra scoring opportunities. The defensive effort was solid at times but could not fully offset the offensive struggles, leaving room for further development.

The Huskies traveled to Molalla on Thursday, Dec. 19, where offensive rhythm proved difficult to establish. The Indians maintained steady pressure throughout the game, forcing errors and limiting scoring chances for the Huskies. The final score, 57-36, reflected the challenges the team faced in executing plays and maintaining control of the ball against a disciplined opponent.

“We did not play well enough this week,” Emmert said. “In both games, we had too many turnovers and did not execute very well offensively. Being young, we are going to take our lumps, and this week was one of them.”

The Huskies, 2-4, are looking to regroup during the Vince Dulcich Tournament in Astoria on Dec. 26-27. They will also host Yamhill-Carlton on Dec. 27 at 5:45 p.m.
