Editor’s note: In this issue we welcome Kelly Kenoyer, who has joined our staff to replace former reporter Sean Morgan, who has moved on to the Sweet Home Police Department. Here Kelly introduces herself.
By Kelly Kenoyer
Thank you, Sweet Home, for inviting me to join your community!
I’m the idealistic new reporter in town, fresh from the journalism master’s degree program at the University of Missouri, where I studied audio and data reporting. Sweet Home may soon be home to its very own podcast!
I’m more local than my education implies, however. I grew up in Salem and went to University of Oregon for my undergrad. There I studied journalism and international studies, and I hopped straight into a job at Eugene Weekly as I graduated.
There I covered everything from schools to protests to mistreatment of the elderly in long-term care homes.
I can’t wait to get to know this community better, whether it’s celebrating our triumphs or respectfully reporting on our tragedies. I want to hold up a mirror to all of you and dig up the stories that need to be told.
I’m especially excited to be in Sweet Home because it’s so perfectly situated by Foster Reservoir and right next to some of the best camping in the world. I’m an avid outdoorswoman, so you can catch me on the hiking trails or biking around town. And if anyone wants to teach this city slicker how to hunt, please give us me a call!
Most importantly, give me a call if you think there’s something that needs reporting on. I’m at your service, Sweet Home, and I can’t wait to get to work.
