Editor:
If I wanted an “It’s Great to be Straight Cake” to celebrate my son’s coming out of the closet from the gay lifestyle, I would not go to a gay-owned bakery.
If I want to celebrate the fact that I am white, I would not ask an African-American baker to make me an “It’s All Right to be White” cake.
If I wanted to celebrate Christmas with a “Jesus Christ is Lord” cake, I would not go to a Muslim bakery.
I would certainly never ask an atheist to perform a religious wedding celebration for me.
I have too much respect for other people’s values to insist that they change them to accommodate me.
One wonders if the lesbian couple who filed a complaint with the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industry chose Sweet Cakes By Melissa by accident. It certainly appears that they were targeted by the lesbian couple to punish them for their beliefs. Then, to insist that Go Fund Me shut down the very site that could have benefited the couple who operated the wedding cake shop is pure vindictiveness.
I will pray that the Kleins get enough financial support from the rest of us so they don’t end up in a homeless shelter. I also will pray for this lesbian couple and if they ever need another $135,000 to fund one of their other projects, like a delayed honeymoon, they should try targeting a Muslim bakery.
