Sweet Home’s volleyball team opened its league campaign Thursday with a 3-1 win over Junction City at home.
The Huskies won the first game decisively, 25-13, then got sloppy and lost Game 2 21-25.
“I felt like we played well, but we lost focus a little bit in the second game,” Coach Mary Hutchins said. “We let some dumb stuff drop.”
Sweet Home reloaded and delivered its “best game ever” in Game 3, winning 25-9.
Then the Huskies got sloppy again, trailing 22-19 in the fourth game, when Hutchins called time out.
“We talked about how we didn’t want to go five games because that increases our odds of losing,” she said. “We scored the next six points and won.”
Ally Tow, who was celebrating her birthday, delivered 21 kills to lead Sweet Home.
Tuesday evening, the Huskies, 5-1 on Monday, not counting a few abbreviated round-robin games from the Cascade Tournament, face(d) Sisters, which was 9-1 coming into Tuesday’s match.
The Outlaws’ one loss so far has been to 6A-Division Bend. They have beaten both 5A Summit (3-2) and Ridgeview (3-0) on the road. Sisters opened Sky-Em play last week with a 3-0 win over Sutherlin, which Sweet Home will face Thursday, Sept. 22, on the road.
