La Pine 44, Sweet Home 22
The Huskies lost to La Pine 44-22 on Feb. 15 at home in girls basketball.
La Pine held a 9-5 lead at the end of the first quarter.
“We gave up a big second quarter,” said Coach John Barnes. “We dug ourselves a whole and couldn’t climb out. They had the big quarter, then the other three quarters we kind of held them in check but couldn’t do anything else to dig out of the hole.”
The Huskies trailed 28-11 at halftime. La Pine expanded its lead to 36-15 by the end of the third quarter.

Junction City 48, Sweet Home 12
The Huskies lost 48-12 to Junction City at home Friday night in the last game of the season.
Junction City, ranked in the top 10 and without a single loss in league play, opened the first quarter 17-2. They led 25-3 at halftime and 36-7 at the end of the third quarter.
“Nothing in that game really went our way from the get-go,” Barnes said. “It was one of those snowball deals for us. It’s unfortunate to end that way.”
The team’s record doesn’t show it, but “we made some strides” during the season, Barnes said. “I’m really proud of what the kids did.”
The Huskies faced some adversity as they played much of the season without starter and one of its top scorers, Annie Whitfield, who was out with an injury.
“Any time you lose a starter, you have to have kids step up, and we did,” Barnes said, but it wasn’t enough to start getting the wins.
The girls finish winless in league play. They are 20-2 overall this season.
The team will come back with experience next year, he said. He loses two seniors, three-year starter Cole and R. Muir.
That means the team will have some open competition for the point guard position, he said, and he’s looking forward to seeing what happens there.
The team will return three juniors and six sophomores, he said, and he is hoping to see a few freshmen ready to contribute.
“I think there’s some potential for a few of the freshmen to push the upperclassmen for starting jobs,” Barnes said, but the bottom line, “we have to get better.”
