This year was great – music by DJ Michael was right on, and the weather was perfect.
Many thanks to the founders Larry and Susan Angland, the Board of Directors and the 28 volunteers that pulled this show together. With so many moving parts it takes an army to be successful.
We had 141 registered vehicles with many more unregistered, which showed up at the last minute.
The vehicle participants included cars and trucks from all eras, 4x4s, motorcycles, mini trucks, a semi, plus many more.
We gave 61 trophies this year, 25 voted on by Doernbecher kids and their friends.
We also brought back People’s Choice (voted on by spectators) and Participants’ Choice (voted on by registered participants); these winners were automatically added to the marketing campaign for next year, along with the Best of Show, Best Semi, 4×4, and Motorcycle.
Last year we had a young man, Clinton Corrington, driving around the show; his dad built him a replica of a Kenworth W900 with a side tilt dump trailer.
He was chosen as a Kids Pick but left due to heat before we could acknowledge his awesomeness.
Well, this year he was back and we were honored to have him hand out the Best Semi trophy and to stay to be on our marketing campaign for next year.
We had one hiccup in the show with the T-shirts showing up really, really late; however, the show participants were very gracious and understanding. We only had a few people that left before receiving their T-shirts and it’s being handled!
Two new additions included an RC Offroad obstacle course and 1/24th scale funny car drag strip.
The RC course was a huge hit with the kids and adults, but the drag strip/cars couldn’t get “up to speed” (the tables could not get leveled enough). However, we have a plan for next year!
The burn out pit was a success, with Alex Justice taking best show when the car spooled then blew flames out the pipe on the hood. There were five registered vehicles that took part in the “All American Burn-Out,” as Clint from Santiam Sound described it.
Vehicles paid $10 to pull onto the pit except Veterans, who played for free (thank you for your service, Josh).
Devon Dixon performed with his 57’ Chevy pickup to
get the show started. Josh Noble in his Monster Red 71’ Nova, Sawyer Aiello in his 94’ Toyota pickup, Eric Munts in the ’90’s Danger Ranger and Alex Justice in his ‘91 Nissan 240 SX. When asking Alex how it felt, he stated; “well, I am on my lunch hour from work, thought I would come down and check it out.”
Alex not only was on lunch from Point S – O&M Tire but won the $200 Burn Pit certificate. All the proceeds, plus $250, are donated to the ABC House for assessment and support services for local children and youth.
This year we made sure to have shade for participants during the awards in front of the stage area. The generosity towards our charities of focus is awesome! I want to thank all the sponsors, vendors, participants, and the public for supporting our event.
Again, thank you to everyone, especially the volunteers who worked tirelessly to make this event happen.
Rubber side down & keep cruisin’!
