‘No Kings’ rally

Oct. 18 in Lebanon

East Linn Indivisible will hold a “No Kings” rally from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Academy Square in Lebanon.

All are invited to attend. Participants will gather along Main Street, between Tangent and Academy. “Dress up as kings and queens,” suggest the organizers, “and bring your pro-democracy signs, noisemakers, and positive energy.”

The purpose of the rally is to demonstrate that America has no king, that the sovereign power belongs to the people, and that the people of eastern Linn County stand together in supporting our democracy. The American Revolution, after all, was fought to free the British colonies in America from the rule of King George, and George Washington himself rejected “with abhorrence” the idea of becoming king. This event will be one among thousands of held the same day across the nation, all with the same anti-authoritarian message.

For more information on the work of East Linn Indivisible, join the East Linn Indivisible Facebook group or, at the rally, add your email address to the list at the East Linn Indivisible booth.
