The Friends of the Lebanon Public Library announced it received a $2,000 matching grant through the Siletz Tribal Charitable Contribution Fund.
The funds will directly support the library’s upcoming Summer Reading Program, ensuring that local youth are rewarded for their dedication to literacy.
This year’s program, themed “Plant a Seed, Read,” officially starts on June 1 at the Lebanon Public Library. Readers of all ages are encouraged to visit the library to register for the program.
The funds from the Siletz Tribe will be used to purchase brand new children’s books for participants ranging from birth to age 18. In addition to the book rewards and other prizes, the Summer Reading Program features various events and activities designed to sprout curiosity and cultivate a passion for stories and learning.
The Summer Reading Program kicks off at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, with balloon artist and comedy illusionist, Twisty the Great, at the Academy Square gazebo, 55 Academy St.
The partnership between the Siletz Tribe and Friends of the Lebanon Public Library highlights a shared commitment to education and community enrichment. By providing high quality, diverse books as prizes, the program aims to combat the “summer slide” and keep students engaged with learning during the school break.
