A series of road games over the last week have kept the summer Husky baseball team at an even record, running 9-9 right now.
The Huskies traveled to Prineville on June 22 and June 23 for two games followed by Newport on June 25 and Taft at Lincoln City on June 26. They played at Corvallis on June 28.
“We have gained valuable experience in all these games, and the kids have shown great improvement in many areas,” Coach Dan Tow said. “At Newport, we played two games, one with our older kids, which we lost 7-1, and one with our younger players, which we won 8-6.
“Cody Miller got the win on the mound and pitched very well. Tomas Rosa hit the ball very well in the game with three hits. Bill Ciullo also had a good game, and Tyler Emmert caught well and did a nice job with the bat.
“At Taft, we lost a good ball game 5-4. This one went back and forth, and Donny Cliver threw very well in the game. I thought our kids did well defensively, and they all are swinging the bats aggressively. We’ve been doing a good job hitting the ball and making teams make defensive plays to get us out. Donny Cliver was 2-3 with a double in the Taft game, and Brent Smith was also 2-3.
“Against Corvallis on the 28th, we lost 7-2 but played well again. We’ve been playing a lot of games recently with a very young team.
“Our returning varsity players are all gone for a while for a variety of reasons, so a lot of young kids have been getting valuable experience, and they’ve been competing well.
“In the Corvallis game, Cody Miller and Donny Cliver combined to throw a five-hitter. Again, Cliver had a couple of hits, and Kye Frick had a double. Jon Dearborn had a good defensive game.
“We’ve been getting some good efforts on the mound from some of our young kids. Jon Dearborn has been doing a great job for us behind the plate. We’ve been playing a lot of games, and I’m very pleased with the effort and the improvements we’ve made.”
