Calvin Edward Marrs

Calvin Marrs

Feb. 2, 1943 – Jan. 15, 2025

Calvin Edward Marrs, 81, a loving father, devoted husband, and renaissance man, went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 15, 2025.

Calvin “Buck” was born at home in Elizabeth, Colo., on Groundhog’s Day, on Feb. 2, 1943. His father Lawrence and mother Gladys were his loving parents, and he spent a rambunctious childhood with his seven brothers and sisters, Ida, Joe, Rosemary, Jack, Alfred “Cork”, Bobby, and Park “Bud”.

Calvin lived his early years in Canon City, Colo., and in 1963 he left to serve his country as part of the United States Army. He returned home to Canon City, met and later married the love of his life, Johnnie Lynn (Buxman) Marrs.

They had two daughters, Patricia Lynn and Mary Elizabeth, three grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Calvin worked on the farm and enjoyed many other projects during this time including woodworking, clock and watch repair, ham radio, fishing, auto mechanics, and auctions.

In the early 1980s, Calvin and his family packed up the pickup and camper and moved north to Alaska. They spent several years in Anchorage, where Calvin worked as an auto mechanic and tow truck driver. Calvin drove all over the great state of Alaska in his tow truck experiencing the beauty and splendor; rescuing stranded drivers and making them laugh with his many stories and jokes.

Calvin and his family moved to Oregon in the 1990s and bought some property in Sweet Home. He built his home there from the ground up with the help of his brother Cork and brother-in-law David.

Calvin and Lynn lived there for the next 30 years, where Calvin worked for the public sector and a nonprofit organization. Calvin enjoyed going to and participating in tractor pulls, where he won several trophies and ribbons. Once retired, you could find Calvin on one of his many tractors faithfully working the land by his house, repairing engines, and watching the world go by.

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heavens:

A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
