Cancellation leaves Huskies with one more non-league game

Sweet Home’s boys played only one game last week due to a cancellation of a game scheduled for Friday, Jan. 9 at third-ranked Madras.

On Jan. 6 the Huskies lost 63-50 to Sisters, who will be in their league next year when Sweet Home drops down to the 3A DIvision.

The Huskies have lost two straight and were 5-7 coming into this week, sliding to No. 22 in the OSAA rankings.

Their last non-league game is on the road at No. 7 St. Helens on Tuesday, Jan 13. The Lions are stacked with height, having seven players above 6 feet, five of them over 6-2. Five of the Huskies stand over 6 feet.

Still, they are averaging in the 45 to 50 point area with their high coming at Cottage Grove Dec. 9, where they scored 66 points.

St. Helens is averaging about 57 PPG, with a high of 78 points.

The teams’ common opponents are Molalla and Seaside, the Lions beat Seaside 52-36, while Sweet Home beat the Seagulls 51-40. They both lost to Molalla, Sweet Home 63-54, While St. Helens lost 81-70.

Oregon West Conference action will start for the Huskies the following Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 16 Philomath. Their first home league game will be against Stayton Jan. 23.
