Cascade 67
Sweet Home 40
Cascade defeated Sweet Home’s girls basketball team 67-40 Friday night at home.
Cascade built a 15-10 lead in the first quarter. Cascade added 17 more in the second quarter to lead 32-16 at halftime. Cascade led 52-29 by the end of the third quarter.
“The second and third quarters got away from us bad, especially the second quarter,” Coach Mark Tyler said. Trailing by only five after one, it began looking like a good ball game; but the second and third quarters sealed the loss.
After the first quarter, shots fell flat and the Huskies didn’t do a good job on the boards, Coach Tyler said. The Huskies ended the game with 29 turnovers.
“We knew Cascade’s trademark is they’re going to press and they’re going to trap you,” Coach Tyler said. “We flat worked on it a couple of days and thought we were prepared for it, but we didn’t respond to it very well.”
The Huskies shot 13-47 from the field compared to a 28-58 showing from Cascade.
Coach Tyler said his team has spent much more time shooting in practice this year.
“We’re hoping that’s going to pay off,” he said. If the Huskies can grab a couple of wins before the end of the first round of league and in the second, they can make conference playoffs, then it becomes a one-game season.
Kaci Trask played well Friday night, Coach Tyler said. She led the team in scoring with 13 points.
Mahria Zook added nine; Amanda Burcham, five; Teresa Lewis, four; Kendra Greene, four; Mallory Carlson, three; and Katie Reynolds, two.
Junior varsity defeated Cascade 42-36. The team led 16-14 at halftime.
Rachel Gaskey led the Huskies with 14 points. Jenna Anderson and Carlson each added eight points.
The junior varsity has a 7-3 record.
