East Linn’s girls placed second and the boys fifth Friday, May 15, at the Jeannine James Invitational hosted by Gervais.
The girls scored 158 points behind Blanchet (225) and ahead of Knappa (67), Southwest Christian (59), Vernonia (31) and nine other schools.
Blanchet also finished on top in the boys team competition with 180 points, well ahead of Knappa (89), Vernonia (62), Southwest Christian (60) and ELCA (59), with six other teams behind the Eagles.
Lexy Kauffman swept the sprints, winning the 100 (12.69), the 200 (26,06, a PR) and the 400 (1:00.21), and anchoring the ELCA 4×100 team with Kaylyn Kauffman, Avery Runyon and June Cowan to a second-place finish in 52.55, behind Blanchet (52.28).
Cowan won the 100 (15.74) and 300 hurdles (49.28), the latter a PR for her, and the long jump (15-0).
Svetlana Manner won the pole vault (8-0), with Annah Henry second (7-6), and Maci Modderman was second in the discus (101-6) and third in the shot (32-5).
Morgan Lalonde was second in the 1500 in 5:44.36, with Allie Presley third (5:54.34) and Bella Albert fourth (6:01.79), all PR’s.
For the boys, Josh Rehart won the 400 (51.79) and Ryder Howard won the long jump (20-10¼) and took second in the triple (39-1½).
Rehart was third in the 200 (23.43), and Karter Nofziger was third in the javelin with a PR of 134-8.
Rehart, Jonah Magness, Beckham Kramer and Ryder Howard were third in the 4×400 (3:40.10) and Kramer, Gabe Talleur, Hank Davidson and Karter Nofziger finished fourth in the 4×100 (47.64).
District 2 Championships Outlook
East Linn will compete Thursday and Friday, May 21-22, at the 2A District 2 Championships at Regis.
Lexy Kauffman and Cowan lead the Eagle girls into the district meet, Kauffman leading the rankings in the 100 (the only girl below 13 seconds), 200 and 400 (the only runner below 1:00).
Cowan is top-ranked in the 100 hurdles and second in the 300, and second in the long jump.
ELCA is second-ranked in the 4×100 (52.41), behind Delphian (51.25).
Modderman is ranked second in the shot and discus, and Manner goes into the competition with the second-highest pole vault (8-6).
For the boys, Rehart is ranked second in the 400 and third in the 200, while Cole Pennington is ranked second in the 300 hurdles (43.30).
The 4×100 team of Kramer, Talleur, Davidson and Rehart are ranked third (45.71) behind Central Linn (45.49) and No. 1 Delphian (44.89), and Rehart, Magness, Pennington and Howard are ranked third (3:36.62) in the 4×400 behind Central Linn (3:35.49) and Delphian (3:31.70).
The boys’ strongest events look to be the jumps, in which Howard is ranked No. 1 (by 5 inches) in the high jump and the triple, and second by 2¾ inches in the long jump.
In the pole vault, Davidson (12-6) and Pennington (11-6) are the top two ranked vaulters coming into the meet.
