Free Saturday garden lectures

OSU Extension Service’s Master Gardeners invite the public to free weekly organic garden lectures on Saturdays, through May 2, from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Lebanon Senior Center, 80 Tangent St.

Peruse info tables and magazines, select free seeds from the Seed Wagon, find free planting supplies, or ask questions to master gardeners. Each class also involves hands-on planting.

Healing Gardens 

Lebanon Community Hospital Foundation invites people to enjoy the hospital’s Japanese healing gardens through several upcoming opportunities. For more information, contact Brandy O’Bannon at [email protected].

April 10 at 10 a.m. – Garden Tour: Free monthly garden tour. No registration required. Meet at the gazebo by the koi pond at the Boulder Falls garden, 605 Mullins Dr.

April 11 at 1 p.m. – Quiet Seeing-Creative Nature Journaling Class: Explore the healing garden through mindful observation and simple creative practices during a time of quiet attention, reflection and connection. Artist and instructor Elizabeth Higgins will guide participants to slow down, engage their senses and observe the natural setting through mindful drawing and writing. Gentle, accessible prompts support attentive looking and listening, sensory awareness and simple recording through sketches and brief written reflections. This free event is geared toward adults 18 and older; pets are not permitted. Participants should bring a notebook or journal. May 1 at 10 a.m. – May Day Garden Clean Up: Volunteers needed who are willing to help with light gardening tasks at the hospital healing garden, such as raking and weeding. Email [email protected] to sign-up.

May 3 at 1 p.m. – De-stress With Your Senses: Experience the garden through guided activities that engage all five senses. A series of short sessions designed to awaken the senses and promote relaxation. Participants will rotate through five activities, including a therapeutic garden walk (sight), a succulent plant activity (touch), tea tasting (taste), sachet making (smell) and a musical experience (sound). Geared toward adults 18 and older; pets are not permitted.

March Against

Child Abuse in SH

Sweet Home Police Department will host its annual March Against Child Abuse at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 11, at SHPD, 1950 Main St.

The event will include a presentation by Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) followed by planting of a pinwheel garden in front lawn.

The march will travel down Main Street down to 15th Avenue, then turn around and march on the south side of Main Street to 18th Avenue. Attendees will finish the march by walking to the police station on the north side of Main Street. Hot dogs donated by Thriftway will be offered at the march’s endpoint.

Pinwheels can be purchased from the police department at $2 apiece. All proceeds from the pinwheel purchases will go to a child abuse prevention organization.

Egg Hunt April 11

at Wiley Creek

Wiley Creek Senior Living will host an Easter Egg Hunt for children of all ages at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 11, at 5050 Mountain Fir St. in Sweet Home.

A hunt for children ages 0-6 will be from 2 to 2:15 p.m.; ages 7 through 12 from 2:15 to 2:30 p.m., and older children from 2:30 to 2:45 p.m.

Lebanon Community 

Chorus spring concert

Lebanon Community Chorus presents “The Rhythms of Life,” a Spring choral concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, at the Lebanon High School, 1700 S 5th St.

Tickets at Lebanon Bi-Mart, Lebanon Chamber of Commerce and at the door, $15 per person; 18 and under is free.

Habitat for Humanity 

Breakfast Fundraiser

Habitat for Humanity will host a complimentary buffet breakfast at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14, at Boulder Falls Inn Event Center, 605 Mullins Dr.

A guest speaker from Washington, D.C., will share her story about growing up in an Habitat home. The purpose of the breakfast event is to ask for community financial support to help sustain the nonprofit’s work toward building homes for low income families.

After 5 Connections

dinner, program

After 5 Connections – a gathering for women – will host “B Organized….Not Overloaded” dinner and program from 6-7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, at Ma’s Restaurant, 2416 S. Santiam Hwy., Lebanon.

Guest speaker will be Darien Parsons, of Yelm, Wash. She will discuss the legacy of Walter Duff, Sr., the father-in-law of Helen Duff Baugh, founder of Stonecroft Ministries. Her personal stories will bring interesting historical information about the organization the Lebanon After 5 Connection represents.

Karen Bourgeois, talented flutist of Lebanon, will perform for us, and the featured presentation will be from Alyssa Rimer, of Queen B Organizing, who says, “Our homes and lives are filled to the brim with things. Providing space and caring for these possessions requires time, money and effort.” Alyssa will share how we can downsize and create an environment of harmony, free of chaos that clutter creates.

Genealogical Society 

Workshop April 18

Sweet Home Genealogical Society will hold its annual Genealogical Workshop from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 18, at the Genealogical Society Library, 1223 Kalmia St.

Two sessions will be offered, the first on the War of 1812 and the second on the Mexican-American War during the 1840s.

The speaker will be David Dickson, a retired high school history teacher.

Preregistration is required before April 15, due to limited space. Cost is $5 for society members, $8 for non-members and $3 for students.

The library will open at 9 a.m. to allow completion of the registration process and time for visiting and questions regarding genealogy.  Coffee, hot water for tea and hot cocoa, and water will be available throughout the morning.

Lebanon Chamber

Biz Expo April 16

The Lebanon Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Biz Expo from noon to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 16, at the River Center, 3000 S. Santiam Hwy., Lebanon.

The event brings together local businesses, entrepreneurs, and community members for networking, promotion, and connection. Businesses can showcase their products and services, while visitors can explore local opportunities, enjoy interactive exhibits, and sign up for a chance to win thousands of dollars in prizes.

Admission for the public is free.

‘Pirates’ on stage 

at Albany theater

Albany Civic Theater will state “Pirates of Penzance” April 17 through May 9 at 111 W. 1st Ave. in Albany.

The classic comic opera by W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan is being performed in a steampunk style. Frederic, a pirate’s apprentice, falls head-over-heels in love with Mabel, the daughter of Major-General Stanley. But there are complications…

Evening shows start at 7:30 p.m.; matinees at 2:30 p.m. Evening performances are April 17-19 and 24-26, and May 1-3 and 7-9. Closed captioning is available for the April 25 and 26 shows. Matinees are April 19 and 26, and May 3.

Third-Saturday Mini 

Mart on April 18

The last two of this season’s Third Saturday Mini Marts will be held April 18 at the Sweet Home Nazarene Church, 415 Holley Road.

Hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Participating vendors will be selling handmade crafts, decor,  baked goods and preserves, wire wrapped jewelry, resin art, clothing, woodwork, custom leatherwork and more.

Forum April 21 for 

House, Senate seats

A forum for the primary election candidates for Oregon House District 11 seat and the Oregon Senate District 6 seat, both of which represent East Linn County, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, at the Lebanon First United Methodist Church.

All are welcome to attend. The event is sponsored by the Linn County Unit of the League of Women Voters of Oregon and the Lebanon Rotary Club.

The First United Methodist Church is at 1890 South Second St., Lebanon, at the corner of Airport Road. The forum will take place in the church’s fellowship hall.

Blooms & Brews fest 

in Sweet Home

Sweet Home will celebrate Arbor Day with a Blooms and Brews Festival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at Sankey Park, 877 14th Ave.

Admission is free. Attendees can enjoy beer, wine, food, flowers, lots of vendors, live music and more to celebrate Arbor Day.

Veterans Home

The Oregon Veterans Home in Lebanon invites car enthusiasts to share their classic or military vehicles during the annual Spring Fling Cruise In. Space is limited.

Linn County residents are invited to step up and make a real difference by joining the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), sponsored by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.

CERT volunteers help their neighbors when it matters most, which includes supporting emergency operations, sharing preparedness information, and strengthening community resilience. The program offers free training, hands-on skills, and meaningful opportunities to serve.

Lebanon garden beds available

Porter Park Community Garden in Lebanon has 15 raised garden plots available for rent.

The Community Garden was built by the city to give Lebanon residents a place to garden and promote a healthy community through fresh garden-grown produce and enjoy a community of gardeners.

Located at 2240 Porter St., the rental plot includes soil, compost, water, basic gardening tools to use on-site, and support from Master Gardener and Community Garden Coordinator Sheryl Casteen.

Saturday Market

Third Saturday Markets are returning this year, starting Saturday, Dec. 20, at the Church of the Nazarene, 415 Holley Road.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The monthly event will run through April, featuring local vendors and all sorts of goodies.

Baby and Preschool Storytime

Lebanon Public Library’s storytimes will continue on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 55 Academy St.

Baby and Me StoryTime is held at 10 a.m. every Wednesday. This is designed for ages 0 to 24 months and their caregivers. Those that attend will enjoy interactive time with their child through stories, finger plays, rhyme time and more.

Preschool StoryTime is held at 10 a.m. every Thursday. This allows children 3 years old through kindergarten to explore their world interactively through books, songs, finger plays and crafts.

Second annual Lebanon Powwow

The second annual Lebanon Powwow will be held on Saturday, May 30, at Lebanon High School, 1700 S 5th St.

This is a family-friendly, drug- and alcohol-free cultural event that is free and open to the public.

The powwow is coordinated by Laurie Regalado through the Native American / Alaska Native Education Program. The purpose of the event is to celebrate and share Native culture, honor traditions, uplift Native youth, recognize elders and graduating seniors, and bring the broader community together in a respectful and educational way.

The event will include grand Entry and powwow dancing, drumming and singing, special dances – including tiny tots, cultural and educational components, and Native vendors offering handmade items, art and food. Several drum groups are expected to participate and the Ameyalmazatl Citlaltonal Aztec Dancers are scheduled to perform from 5 to 6 p.m. The Grand Ronde Color Guard is also scheduled to participate.

Square dance lessons

open to public

Lebanon Square Circlers offers square dance lessons Sundays from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Lebanon Senior Center, 80 Tangent St.

No experience required. The first class is free and cost thereafter is $6 per person or $15 per family. All ages are welcome.

Shaun McKamey will be the caller/instructor.

Square Circlers also hold dances on the first and third Saturday nights of each month at the Lebanon Senior Center.

Church seeks hygiene help

Crowfoot Baptist Church operates a hygiene supply program for families in need. They are in need of toothpaste, toothbrushes, dental floss, shampoo and conditioner, deodorant, bar soap, hand soap, feminine hygiene products (tampons and pads), razors, shaving cream, dish soap, laundry detergent, bathroom cleaner, bleach, toilet paper, garbage bags.

Suicide loss support group

Lebanon Area Mental Health Alliance hosts a Suicide Bereavement Support Group every second Thursday of the month from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Lebanon Community Hospital, 525 Santiam Hwy. in conference room 1 and 2. Park and enter at the back of the building.

For anyone who has suffered the loss of a loved one by suicide, struggles with previous attempts or attempts from a loved one, or if suicide has had an impact on your life.

Animal rescue 

helpers needed

Linn County Animal Rescue needs volunteers for its nonprofit work outside Lebanon. For those interested in a rewarding time spent with animals, consider joining LCAR which has horses, minis, cows, sheep and senior dogs. There are two shifts a day, morning and afternoon. Volunteers can work with the livestock or dogs, or both.

Urgent need for Meals 

on Wheels delivery

Meals on Wheels of Sweet Home is in urgent need of volunteer drivers, delivering free meals to local seniors and disabled adults in the Sweet Home area.

Delivery days are Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. The role is best suited for people available in the mid-day, as meals go out at noon. Volunteers work one to two days a week for about 2.5 hours each shift.

Meals on Wheels is managed by Oregon Cascades West Council of Governments and operated by local volunteers. Volunteers package fresh meals in the kitchen and the drivers deliver them. Many local people count on this food as a primary source of nutrition.

Museum needs 

help from locals

East Linn Museum is seeking volunteers and items that are needed for the operation of the museum.

The museum needs volunteers for its operations to replace retiring volunteers. New volunteers are not required to know anything about the museum or how to operate a computer. The museum operates three days a week from Thursday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Supplies needed by the museum include: copy paper, postage stamps, legal size envelopes, paper towels, toilet paper, glass cleaner, all purpose cleaner and Ajax.

clinic Tuesdays

The East Linn Community Clinic is held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays at 1600 Main St. in Lebanon.

This is a medical clinic that provides primary and acute medical care for under- or uninsured individuals. On select nights, Western U COMP-NW offers osteopathic manipulative medicine to treat chronic and acute pain. Patients may walk in or schedule appointments.
