Living Class

Sweet Home Evangelical Church is hosting a Transformational Living class at 6 p.m. Tuesdays.

Classes  are held in the church’s East Wing at 1347 Long St.

The nine sessions are intended to help participants transform their lives, learn about their “kingdom assignments” and how God wants to use them in the world to be a blessing to others.

Church to hold

craft, bake sale

Crawfordsville Calvary Chapel and Star Attractions and Events are co-hosting a spring craft fair and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, May 8-10, at 42648 Ames Creek Road.

Sale items will include fused/stained glass,  custom wood crafts, homemade candy and other goodies, handcrafted soaps, crocheted animals and yard games, as well as Mother’s Day gifts, Fourth of July wreaths and plenty of baked goodies.

 

LCSWA to host 

forest walk events

The Linn County Small Woodlands Association will host two events open to the public over the next week.

On Saturday, May 10, LCSWA will host a Walkabout from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Marble Ranch, southeast of Crawfordsville.

Local rancher John Marble manages cattle while restoring both wetland and forest habitat. On this walkabout, participants will view an active thinning operation and view areas managed for both timber and wildlife. The walk will be followed by a catered lunch and discussion period. There is no cost.

On Thursday, May 15, from 4 to 7 p.m., LCSWA will host a “Twilight Tour” with OSU Extension Forester Lorelle Sherman in McDowell Creek Park.

Sherman will discuss the native flora along the loop trail at McDowell Creek. There is no cost.

Museum sale needs 

donations, volunteers

East Linn Museum is seeking donations for its annual yard sale fundraiser, held during Sportsman’s Holiday, July 11-12.

Donations can be dropped off at the museum , which is open Thursday through Saturday each week from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

TV’s, electronics or large furniture cannot be accepted. Items should be clean and usable.

Beautification effort

needs volunteers 

Looking for an excuse for some outside activity?

Sweet Home Beautification Committee will plant flowers in the Main Street median strip beginning at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 13.

Volunteers are needed. To participate, meet at the corner of Main Street and 10th Avenue to go over instructions, get a safety vest and a trowel.

Volunteers will also plant flowers on Wednesday, May 14, in the following locations:

8:30 a.m. – Highway 228 and Fern Ridge Road

10 a.m. – Shea Point rest stop in Foster

2:30 p.m. – Clover Park at the intersection of Highway 20 and 1st Avenue.

Free home repair,

upgrade workshops

Lebanon Area Habitat for Humanity will hold free Do-It-Yourself Workshops over the course of the next two months to help people learn to do basic home upgrades and repairs.

The workshops will be held at the Habitat ReStore at 566 S. Main St., Lebanon, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on May 13 and June 10. Sign-ups are required. Sign up at tinyurl.com/HabitatDIYworkshops.

The May 13 workshop will cover “Peel-And-Stick Backsplash and Changing Deadbolts, Doorknobs and Latches.”

The June 10 workshop will focus on “Adding Plank Flooring and Updates to Furnishings.”

Rural Living Day 

Returns in JC

The Oregon State University Extension Small Farms Program announced the return of Rural Living Day, to be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, at Junction City High School, 1135 W 6th Ave.

The program is an opportunity for rural landowners and stewards to learn about a variety of

subjects such as composting, weed management, soils, tree identification, septic systems,

chainsaw safety, food preservation and more.

Morning refreshments will be provided, but registrants should bring their own lunch or plan accordingly.

Transformation Living

classes at local church

Sweet Home Evangelical Church will host an eight-week class from 6-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays through  June 24, at 1347 Long St.

Every person who knows Jesus has a unique assignment in the world shaped by their walk with the Lord, the urgency of evangelism and the giftings they have. This class helps you learn about your kingdom assignment by allowing God to partner with you and be a blessing to others.

Beautification Committee

needs volunteers

The Sweet Home Beautification Team is seeking volunteers to help maintain the meridian strips on Main Street. Volunteers for weeding and planting are particularly needed for May 13.

Work days are: Tuesday, May 13 – plant the downtown median strip; Wednesday, May 14 – plant Hwy. 228 (8:30 a.m.), plant Shea Point (10:30 a.m.), plant Clover Park (2:30 p.m.).

Safety vests and trowels are provided. The committee meets on the second Thursday of every month at 10 a.m. at City Hall, 3225 Main St. Work days are the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 8:30 a.m., starting at the Key Bank parking lot on Main Street.

LBCC Dyno Days:

Test your vehicle

Linn-Benton Community College’s annual Dyno Days event will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, May 16-17, at 2000 W Oak St., Lebanon.

Event access is free. Cost for three runs on the dynamometer is $50 to measure how much torque and horsepower your vehicle can make. Food truck, industry partners and tours available.

 

Genealogical Society 

offers free classes

Sweet Home Genealogical Society is offering free monthly classes on topics relating to family research.

The May 17 topic will be “A Trip to Ellis Island,” which will include a visual presentation and history presented by Terri Lanini.

The classes are first-come, first-served and open to all as space permits. They all begin at 11 a.m. and are held at the Genealogy Library, 1224 Kalmia St.

Each class will be approximately 45 minutes to an hour long, with time for questions at the end.

Forum Lunch speaker

Lebanon Chamber of Commerce will host its monthly Forum Lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, May 30, in the Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital conference rooms.

The speaker will be Gabriel Shields of Corvallis, who will speak on “Connection Strategies to Get New Customers and Grow Your Business.” Shields is an entrepreneur, educator and storyteller based in Corvallis.

in Lebanon

The first annual Willamette Valley Powwow will be held from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, at the Boulder Falls Event Center, 605 Mullins St.

Community garden 

plots available

The City of Sweet Home is accepting reservations for 12 available plots in the Community Garden at Strawberry Park.

Plots are $30 a year and are first come, first serve. Sign up with Cindi or Adam at City Hall, 3225 Main St. Water is available on site.

 

Deliver for Meals 

on Wheels

Meals on Wheels of Sweet Home is in urgent need of volunteer drivers, delivering free meals to local seniors and disabled adults in the Sweet Home area.

Delivery days are Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. The role is best suited for people available in the mid-day, as meals go out at noon. Volunteers work one to two days a week for about 2.5 hours each shift.

Meals on Wheels is managed by Oregon Cascades West Council of Governments and operated by local volunteers. Volunteers package fresh meals in the kitchen and the drivers deliver them. Many local people count on this food as a primary source of nutrition.

Pioneer Picnic

The annual Linn County Pioneer Picnic will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 20-22 at Brownsville Pioneer Park.

This year’s event theme is “Pioneer Logging Camps,” and includes a parade, dam run, car show, activities and more. Vendors interested in selling at the event can visit pioneerpicnic.com/vendors for more information.

Museum needs help from locals

East Linn Museum is seeking volunteers and items that are needed for the operation of the museum.

The museum needs volunteers for its operations to replace retiring volunteers. New volunteers are not required to know anything about the museum or how to operate a computer. The museum operates three days a week from Thursday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Supplies needed by the museum include: copy paper, postage stamps, legal size envelopes, paper towels, toilet paper, glass cleaner, all purpose cleaner and Ajax.

ODFW wildlife contest

The Oregon Dept. of Fish and Wildlife invites artists to submit their work for the 2026 stamp art competitions.

The winning artists receive a $2,000 award and their artwork is used to produce collector’s stamps and other promotional items with sale proceeds benefiting Oregon’s fish, wildlife and their habitats. The three contests are:

Habitat Conservation Stamp – Art entries must feature a Strategy Species identified in the Oregon Conservation Strategy in its appropriate habitat. Not all species in the Strategy are eligible, so please use the qualifying list of species. Artists are asked to use the Recommendations for Packaging Artwork on the Contest Rules’ final page.

A panel will judge artwork based on artistic composition, anatomical accuracy of the species and general appeal. Collector’s stamps, art prints and other promotional materials are produced from first-place artwork. Proceeds from product sales are used for habitat improvement, research surveys and conservation projects.

Free health clinic Tuesdays

The East Linn Community Clinic is held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays at 1600 Main St. in Lebanon.

This is a medical clinic that provides primary and acute medical care for under- or uninsured individuals.  On select nights, Western U COMP-NW offers osteopathic manipulative medicine to treat chronic and acute pain.  Patients may walk in or schedule appointments.
