Thieves escaped with $306.60 worth of merchandise and personal belongings during two New Year’s Eve raids. Kyriss Tire Shop at 19th and Main, and Ray’s Grocery next door were robbed during the night. Screens had been removed from both businesses to make entry. Taken were cash, tires, a typewriter, a car radio, a clock, a Presto cooker, a shaver, auto back-up lights, a twin horn, and two radios.

City Manager Dave Crutcher said his top concern for the new year is the Foster-Midway controversy, which was 1974’s top headline grabber throughout the year. While state government had an interest in solving the septic health problems, few favored a forced annexation of Foster into Sweet Home. to solve the problem. Crutcher this year also eyes a new sign ordinance, the completion of Clover Memorial Park, the development of a Strawberry Hills park, development of a new downtown plan, and the possibility of acquiring a new fire pumper.

The Planning Commission recognized several property owners for their efforts in providing or maintaining quality development in the city. The quality improvement award went to Ames Creek Court, at 18th and Fir, which provides low rent apartments to low income seniors. The good neighbor award went to Cascade Timber Consulting because its building always looks so good and the company is involved in a number of community projects. The quality development award went to Home Town Drug for the completion of its remodel.
