Frank Cameron was injured when a gas tank he was welding exploded in his face. He suffered a bruise on the arm, broken nose and cuts inside his mouth as the blast shattered his false teeth and broke his welding glasses and spectacles. Cameron was replacing the end of the tank due to leaks when it exploded.
Nearly 300 youngsters are expected at the third annual Easter egg hunt, sponsored by the Sweet Home Junior Chamber of Commerce. Four Easter bunnies will be awarded the two boys and two girls who gather the most eggs in the wooded area west of the Oak Heights playground.
Lack of sunshine and altitude may be causing the frequent tooth decay among Oregon children, according to an Oregon State college experiment. Studies in three geographic areas – the coast, Willamette Valley and Central Oregon – demonstrated that fluoride content of public water supplies, availability of dental services and consumption of sugared items are not responsible for the regional differences in dental health. The only significant difference discovered was the amount of sunshine and variations in altitude.

Kathleen Jordan, 25, one of two geologists with the U.S. Forest Service, wants to become Oregon’s first female district forest ranger. Jordan joined the Sweet Home District two years ago and was named Young Career Woman of the Year by the Business and Professional Women’s Club.
Lebanon and Sweet Home high school students earned first place in several categories after competing against 10 other schools at the Regional Skills contest at LBCC. They are: Ted George, LHS, architectural drafting; Doyle Bare, LHS, mechanical drafting; Charlie West, SHHS, gas welding; Jeff King, LHS, construction; Lee Ann Troyer, LHS, shorthand I; Jan Hutley, LHS, spelling.
A recent East Linn Chamber of Commerce survey revealed members almost unanimously favor industrial development for the Sweet Home area. One unanimous response indicated businesses often didn’t locate to Sweet Home due to lack of industrial park facilities.

James Wildemann Masterson, 29, was arrested after he fired shots and refused to leave his home. Police responded to 1234 Nandina St. at about 5:20 a.m. to investigate several 911 hang-up calls. An officer spotted Masterson, armed, inside the home. As the officer backed away, he heard several shots from inside.
City Council approved the expenditure of $1,000 to be used as part of a match for the Senior Center to purchase three buses. The Senior Center’s transportation system, Linn County Shuttle and Dial-A-Bus, is funded mostly by special transportation funds and tobacco money, but the current purchase will be funded by Oregon Department of Transportation Small Cities and Rural Transportation.
