The City Council rejected a proposal to spend almost three times as much on landscaping at the new wastewater treatment plant than was included in the original estimate. Architectural firm CH2M-Hill originally estimated $10,000 two years ago, but asked for an increase to $29,514. City Manager David Crutcher said the increase was due to rapid inflation and there is a substantial amount of bond money left, so it wouldn’t cost the city anything more.

Potholes, dips and low spots on the recently reconstructed 18th Avenue became the subject of controversy that led City Council to refuse to release the final $7,850 in retainage to the street’s contractor out of Corvallis.

M50 rolled back property values to 1995 levels less 10%, and capped the growth of new assessed values to 3% a year. M77 would’ve affected local levy options and, in short, could’ve created a $138,000 overall reduction in taxes for Sweet Home.

Boys Scouts of America Calapooia District honored individuals who’ve served Scouting for more than 50 years during the Scouts’ annual Camporee. Among them were Jack Gourley and Clinton Bennett of Sweet Home.
