Sweet Home’s boys opened their golf season Monday, March 17, at Bandon Dunes, finishing sixth out of six teams with a less-than-complete roster.
“Bandon went pretty well,” Coach Ron Moore said. “We didn’t have Trent (Harvey), who is our lowest golfer and we were missing a couple of others.”
Senior Easton Perry was the Huskies’ low scorer, finishing with a 95 on the Old Mac course.
“We had a slow start, but it was a tough course, though the weather was good on on Monday,” Moore said, adding that the boys got to experience diverse weather over the weekend as “we were messing around,” prior to playing for real.
Sophomore Daniel McCubbins and senior RJ Abbott, who is a rookie to high school golf, both shot 109 and sophomore Gage Pettner shot 110.
The boys will not play again until Wednesday, April 2, when Sweet Home hosts its own invitational – for both boys and girls – at Mallard Creek. Tee-offs start at 9 a.m.

The Huskies opened their season March 17 at McNary in a tournament that included nearly every team in their Special District 3.
Coach Haley May said her players, most of them rookies, “had a good time” as three of the beginners played the full 18 holes “and they were excited afterwards.”
Avery Temple, a returnee from last year, shot 128 to lead the Huskies.
“We have a team of beginners but I saw some crazy improvements with their swings just in that tournament alone,” May said. “That was really cool to see. Tori Victor is really starting to figure out her swing, which is fun to watch.
“I have a good team. I’m excited.”
