The Sweet Home Golf team participated in four golf tournaments over the past week.
The varsity boys competed twice, on Monday, April 8, at Tokatee in McKenzie River, and on Thursday at Langdon Farms in Aurora.
At Tokatee, known for its picturesque setting – and dangerously fast greens, sophomore Trent Harvey led the Huskies with a score of 81, tied for 11th place.
Senior Easton Perry had his low round of the year with a 92, tying for 34th. Senior RJ Abbott and returning sophomore Zane Garrett tied for 57th with scores of 106, while returning sophomore Daniel McCubbins rounded out the team score with a season low score of 103. Also representing Sweet Home were returning sophomores Gage Pettner (114) and Kellen Hartsook (119) and returning senior Gavin Gardner (104).
The boys tied for seventh overall with Philomath in a field that included six of the top 10 teams in the state. Other teams included Marist Catholic, Marshfield, Stayton, North Bend, East Linn Christian Academy, Junction City, Philomath, Pleasant Hill and Cottage Grove.
At Langdon Farms on Thursday, Sweet Home’s boys did not fare as well, finishing second to last, besting Gladstone by 17 strokes. The competition at Langdon included Stayton, Cascade, North Marion, Molalla, Philomath, Santiam Christian, Newport, Estacada, and Gladstone.
Harvey withdrew from the match after the eighth hole with a back injury and Perry led the team with a score of 95, tied for 22nd. Abbott was right on Perry’s heels, posting the best score of his rookie year with a round of 97. McCubbins took 39th with a 107 and Gardner was 40th with 108.
Also on Monday, April 7, the girls traveled to Diamond Woods in Monroe, where they took fourth place in a field that included Santiam Christian, Harrisburg, Philomath, Amity, Taft, North Marion, Stayon, Blanchet Catholic, Newport, and Cascade.
Tori Victor, a returning sophomore, was low scorer for the team at 128, 15th overall in the tournament. Isabella Wagner, a first-time player as a junior, and freshman Taelyn Coleman tied for second place on the team, both shooting 142, good for 24th overall. Crimson Riggs-Emmert, also a first-timer as a senior, rounded out the team with a score of 152, for 28th place.
Both the boys and girls played Monday, April 14, at Shadow Hills in Junction City. Results were not available at press time.
