June Parker

Daisy “June” Parker passed away Oct. 13 at her memory care home in Salem due to a stroke. She was 87.

June was the fifth child of Wayne and Ida (Allen) Parker of Plainview, Ore. She is the great-granddaughter of Moses Parker, a well-known local pioneer who traveled to Oregon across the plains in a covered wagon train. She was born in Lebanon and grew up on her parents’ farm with her four siblings.

She attended schools in Plainview and Shedd. After graduating high school, she attended Emanuel Hospital in Portland. She got her RN license and was a nurse, working in hospitals, medical clinics and nursing homes in Oregon and California. She was also a nursing instructor. Later, June attended University of Oregon and Northwest Christian College, receiving both bachelors and masters degrees. She became an entrepreneur as a counselor, then ran a dating service, and ultimately ran a successful foot-care business in Oregon and California. She loved and was loved by her many clients, who entertained her with their life stories.

June loved gardening, quilting and cats. She had natural artistic talent and was skilled in floral design, home renovation, landscaping, sewing, baking and cake decorating, photography and about every craft she tried. She also learned to fly and soloed towards getting a pilot’s license. She was an avid reader and had a scholarly knowledge of the Bible. She was very involved in churches, and played the piano, organ and violin, and sang in choirs.

In 1958 she married Ernest Shippen and lived in Roseburg, where they had two children, Mark and Julie. They divorced and later she married John Madison and they lived in Lebanon.

June is survived by her son Mark Shippen (Meghan) and daughter Julie Oakes (Robert), and granddaughters Melanie and Jennifer, all of the Salem area; a brother Irvine Parker of Albany; and numerous nieces and nephews. Her parents and siblings (Allen Parker, Louise Wheeler and Lillian Curtis) preceded her in death.

Per June’s request, no services will be held. Her ashes will be buried at Sandridge Cemetery in Lebanon. Memorial donations can be made to the cemetery to plant trees.
