The Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District responded to calls of a head-on collision on milepost 19 on Highway 228, Sept. 30.
According to a press release, dispatch reported multiple patients were involved with one patient trapped under a vehicle. Sweet Home Fire units were returning from an earlier call for a truck fire when they were suddenly dispatched to this wreck. Along with this, one unit manning a pumper tender rushed to station 21 to staff a rescue unit.
As crews made their way out, the first responding medic unit requested Life Flight upon seeing the extent of damages and injuries. First arriving units found a total of four patients, three of which were located in one vehicle that had ended up in a ditch. Dakota Dobbins, 28, of Lebanon, a (unidentified) Juvenile, 10, and Tyler Webb, 29, of Chico California were all occupying the wrecked Ford Fusion that was laying in the ditch. The additional, more critical patient; Chad Timothy Perreard, 40, of Sweet Home was trapped under a vehicle on the roadway. Perreard was occupying the black Toyota 4Runner.
Fire and Emergency Medical Service crews immediately got to work quickly utilizing extraction tools to raise the vehicle off of the entrapped patient. After raising the vehicle, crews were able to transport the patient to the landing zone, Holley Elementary School, where he was then flown to Riverbend Hospital.
The three other patients were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A total of 10 Sweet Home Fire personnel responded to this incident, staffing: one engine, two commands and three medics. Both involved vehicles were towed by Roger’s Towing.
The press release ended as follows. If the arrival of the returning units had not occurred at that time, the outcome of this incident could have been much different with minimal staffing being available at the station at the time of the call. We would like to thank our neighbors from Lebanon Fire for their help and remind everyone to travel safe.
