Sweet Home boys win three-way
Sweet Home’s boys scored 74 points to beat Stayton (63) and Newport (35) in a three-way meet matching Oregon West Conference teams Tuesday, April 7, at Husky Field.
The girls were third with 50 points, behind Newport (70) and Stayton (55).
With the Rob Frank meet coming up in four days, coaches curtailed the number of events for the Huskies’ top athletes, so they had limited entries, particularly in girls events.
The Huskies posted 42 personal bests on the boys side and 23 on the girls.
Winners on the track for the Sweet Home were Landon Murry in the 100 (11.65, a PR), Ryker Burr in the 400 (54.98), Nick Larson in the 110 hurdles (17.39), Logan Anderson in the 300 hurdles (47.71, a three-second personal best); and the 4×100 team of Murry, Sam Barringer, Kaeson Walker and Dillan Davis (45.17).
In the field, Sam Barringer won the high jump with a leap of 5-8 and the triple jump in 38-10½. Larson cleared 10-6 to win the pole vault.
For the girls, McKenzie Miller was the lone winner on the track, clocking a personal best of 5:04.13 in the 1500.
Selah Wright won the javelin with a throw of 92-4, and Delainie Pratt cleared 7-6 to win the pole vault.
Sweet Home will compete Wednesday, April 15, at Stayton, then again on April 22, with North Marion at Stayton before hosting the Meet of Champions on April 25.
