Meet the Court: Princess Ashley Duncan

Princess Ashley is the daughter of Jason and Misty Duncan has just finished her junior year at Sweet Home High School.

She attended Hawthorne Elementary School where, she says, she liked all her teachers “because they all helped push me to become the person I am today.” She has an older sister, Madison, 19.

Favorite Activities? Job?

Future Farmers of America throughout high school. I enjoy going to the lake and swimming during summer. I also go into the woods and cut firewood with my family. Normally, I am outside, spending time with my animals, specifically my market lamb.

I am working on getting a job at our local Boys & Girls Club.

What is your favorite thing about living in Sweet Home?

I love how small our community is and if anyone needs help with something, they can always give someone a call and they would get help with whatever is needed.

Why did you join the Sportsman’s Holiday Court?

I wanted to support my community and give back to it. I’ve lived in Sweet Home my whole life and I love how, when we need help we can ask anyone and receive what we need and more. I just want to give back to our town.

What are you looking forward to during Sportsman’s Holiday? What have you enjoyed so far about being on the court?

I have had a lot of fun going to the elementary schools and reading to some of the classes. It always makes me happy to see the kids get so excited that princesses are in their class. I’m also excited for Coronation because I would like to see who the new queen will be and how much money one of the charities that we chose will win.

What charity/nonprofit did you choose to advocate for and why?

I chose SHEM because I love that they are giving to the people in our community who don’t have as much. SHEM stands for Sweet Home Emergency Ministries; this organization provides free food for the people that don’t have enough food. They also refer people to government agencies to help them with their special needs.

If you had one day to show someone the best day ever in Sweet Home, what would that day look like?

I would have breakfast at Taylor Made Cafe, then I would take them to the lake to either go kayaking, paddle boarding, or just swimming. Then, after swimming for a while, we would have sandwiches that were made at Thriftway. After swimming for a little while longer, we would go to The Point Restaurant for some dinner.

What advice would you give a younger “you” about school, friendships, other choices?

I would tell younger me to not worry about the little things and to not stress so much, whatever happens, happens and it is all in God’s hands.

Do you have an adult figure who has inspired you? If so, who is that and why?

My FFA advisor, Mr. Jacobson, has pushed me to become a young woman with lots of leadership skills that will prepare me for the real world.

What is your favorite subject in school and what are your goals for your final year of high school?

Probably U.S. history, because I like to learn about what happened during major events in our country and who was involved with the events and how the events ended. I would like to be able to get all A’s and I would like to be able to continue my high school career with a 4.4 GPA.
