Dear Editor: Proven leadership matters in House race

Editor:

As many of you know, I don’t typically align with Republican candidates, and I rarely involve myself in their primary elections. However, this year feels different—and important enough for me to speak up.

In the race for House District 11, there are multiple Republican candidates. While I respect the process, I also believe that leadership matters deeply, regardless of party. From my perspective, one candidate stands out as someone who will genuinely serve the interests of our entire community.

As a Democrat, I don’t have a vote in the Republican primary. But I do care deeply about the future of our region, and I know many of you feel the same. I encourage those who can vote in this primary to take a close, thoughtful look at who will lead with integrity, collaboration, and a true commitment to the people.

I strongly believe Angelita Sanchez is that candidate.

Angelita is a local business owner, a proven leader, and someone who has consistently shown up for our community. From her work on the Sweet Home City Council to her advocacy across the state, she has demonstrated a willingness to listen, collaborate, and take meaningful action.

Her deep roots in Oregon, spanning five generations, give her a strong understanding of our region’s needs. More importantly, she has put in the time and effort to build relationships, support local industries, and advocate for fairness and responsible leadership during both everyday challenges and times of crisis.

What stands out most to me is her ability to bring people together—setting aside personal differences to focus on what truly matters: the well-being of our communities and the future of our region.

Elected leaders should rise above party loyalty and represent the people they serve. For those participating in the Republican primary, I respectfully ask you to consider supporting Angelita Sanchez for House District 11.

Scottie McKee

Former Sweet Home City Councilor
