Sautel named to Husky Hall of Fame during Senior Awards night

Kirstin Sautel was named to the Sweet Home High School Athletic Hall of Fame

at the Booster Club’s sports awards presentation event Sunday, June 1, in the Sweet Home High School Auditorium.

Sautel, who is headed to the University of Idaho to swim for the Vandals, is a three-time state swimming champion in the 100 Breaststroke (and only lost at state to now-graduated teammate Malia “Josie” Hewitt in 2022, when Sautel was a freshman.)

She is a 15-time district champion in swimming, was a valedictorian for this year’s graduating class and also played soccer for Sweet Home.

She and Dylan Sharp were named Distinguished Athletes for the Class of 2025, an award that recognizes athletes who didn’t just excel in their respective sport, but raised the bar for others around them.

Recipients of this award are recognized as being particularly illustrious in their sporting career.

The Bruce West Spirit of a Champion award, which recognizes athletes who had to overcome genuine adversity to participate in sports, went to Kayla Saddoris and Colton Bennett.

Recipients of the Larry Johnson Sportsmanship Award, which recognizes outstanding sportsmanship by an athlete, team, or spectator(s), were Peyton Lindsey, Jackson Barringer and Gavin Gardner.

The Coaches Scholar Athlete Award, which recognizes one boy and one girl who not only excelled in their sport(s) but in the classroom as well, went to Sharp and Peyton Markell.

The Spirit of a Husky Award, which goes to athletes who participated in three sports throughout their high school careers, went to Barringer (football, wrestling, track), Markell (soccer, cross-country, swimming, track), Emerson Martineau (soccer, swimming, track) and Sharp (football, wrestling, track).

The Moe Award, designed to honor the athlete who may not be the most gifted, but is the hardest worker, the first to arrive and last to leave, the one who always gives

their all regardless of anything else going on in life, went to Jack Simmons, RJ Abbott and Tiara Reynolds.
