Three Sweet Home swimmers competed Jan. 17-19 in the Washington Open swimming competition, at Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.
The meet included swim clubs from all over the West Coast including teams from Colorado and Canada, with over 1,000 athletes in attendance.
The three, RJ Abbott, Kirsten Sautel and Shayne Schuster, all seniors at Sweet Home High School, represented the Sweet Home Swim Club in the event.
Sautel posted lifetime best times in all four events she swam at the competition. She set a club record in the 50 Breaststroke, swimming 30.18 and placing 10th in the finals.
In the 100 Breaststroke Sautel placed eighth at finals in 1:05.02, which qualified her for a Futures cut. The Futures Championships are a series of meets that serve as a stepping stone for swimmers to move up to the Junior Nationals and National Championships.
She also set PRs in the 200 Breaststroke. placing 34th with a time of 2:30.42, and 47th in the 50 Freestyle, in 25.31.
Schuster also posted lifetime bests in all three of his events: 30:38 in the 50 Breaststroke, placing 82nd; 1:05.64 in the 100 Breaststroke, good for 128th place; and 24.87 in the 50 Freestyle to place 231st.
Abbott swam the 100 Butterfly in 57.44, placing 184th; the 200 Freestyle in 1:53.38, placing 140th; and the 100 Breaststroke in 1:06.09, placing 137th.
