Elks, veterans, steaks and toiletries
Elks members and residents of the Veterans Home in Lebanon surround a table filled with donated supplies for the care home.
During one of their regular visits for a steak meal, the veterans and Veterans Home staff picked up the donation which included items such as toothbrushes, shampoo, lotion, calendars, tissue, toothpaste, shaving cream and electric razors. The Sweet Home Elks Lodge No. 1972 received a $1,000 grant from the Elks National Foundation to purchase the toiletries. Sometimes new residents entering the home do not arrive with those basic necessities, so the Elks supplied the facility with extra supplies for those who need them.
Tigers tour State Capitol

Rep. Jami Cate hosted 41 Sweet Home Junior High Leadership students at her 11th District office at the Oregon State Capitol in Salem Tuesday, Feb. 24. SHJH Leadership teacher Ally Gardner said the goal of the trip was for students to learn to “be the ones leading efforts to make their town or city or church or whatever they’re involved in a better place. Seeing adults do these things is how they learn best.” The students met with Cate’s legislative assistants, Conner Booth and Ali Ruiz, and got a chance to visit the House Chamber and watch legislators in action from the third-floor gallery, though due to work being done on the building, they couldn’t do a thorough tour. Above, participants on the trip stand on the Capitol steps.

‘Twelfth Night’ at SHHS
Cast members of “Twelfth Night,” a somewhat modernized version of the Shakespearian classic, salute the audience Saturday night at the end of their performance. The Sweet Home High School production, staged Friday and Saturday, Feb. 28 and March 1, was set in Y2K Santa Monica, but it was the same twisted laughs-inducing love-triangle comedy that the original is. More photos will be made available in the website’s “Galleries” on the Community page.
