On Monday at 4:13 a.m. the Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District (SHFAD) responded to a fire located at 365 Mountain View Road. Upon arrival the SHFAD found a well-involved structure fire with flames coming from the middle of the home and breaching the roof.
Crews were able to battle and gain control of the fire within an hour. All residents were able to escape unharmed prior to the arrival of SHFAD due to their working fire alarms and barking dog.
The fire damaged an outside service area, an enclosed garage and parts of the home’s interior.
A second alarm was called for additional resources which brought Lebanon Fire District and Halsey-Shedd Rural Fire Protection District (RFRD) to the scene
“Lebanon Fire came to the scene and helped with fire suppression and overhaul of the fire,” said SHFAD Chief Nick Tyler.
He said, “Hasley Fire came to station 21 to provide fire response should another call come in.”
Tyler explained that SHFAD was already out on medical calls when the fire was discovered.
“The first arriving Battalion found a well established fire that was threatening the main living area of the home. A second alarm was called for, as personnel directly able to respond were limited.”
Continuing Tyler said, “Defensive fire tactics were initiated. Once the incident commander had the correct resources on scene, the fire was attacked from inside the structure.”
SHFAD said six pieces of apparatus responded to the scene with 17 personnel.
Tyler said, “The fire this weekend is undetermined. We identified an area of origin, however could not conclude the exact cause.”
“Smoke alarms were a key factor in alerting the occupants of the fire and they were able to exit prior to our arrival,” he said.
Tyler added, “As always, we want to remind everyone that working smoke alarms save lives. Please check your smoke alarms often to ensure they are operating.”
