Law enforcement officials from Sweet Home, Linn County and Albany converged on the 900 block of 1st Avenue Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 13, in an attempt to apprehend Jason Scott, who was wanted on multiple charges and had holed up in a house 925 1st Ave.

The incident began shortly after noon and Linn County Regional SWAT (which includes the Benton County Sheriff’s Office, Albany Police Department, and Linn County Sheriff’s Office) responded with vehicles and teams to a staging area at the American Legion Hall at the corner of 1st and Holley Road, the former Fir Lawn Lutheran Church.
First Avenue was closed for some three hours during the incident.
Medics staged at St. Helens Catholic Church on 5th Avenue.
After an extended standoff, during which Scott was repeatedly ordered to exit the home via a loudspeaker, and in which marksmen provided cover on the home from a nearby rooftop and a SWAT vehicle, police entered the home shortly after 4 p.m. and found Scott inside, where he surrendered.

He was arrested on warrants that included possession of methamphetamine, reckless driving, assault IV, and criminal mischief I. He was also arrested for a probable cause by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office for a new charge of unlawful use of a weapon.
This arrest was made possible through the cooperation of community members with Sweet Home Police Officers, and significant resources and efforts by the Linn County Sheriffs Office and Albany police, Sweet Home police said in a statement.
Police said no one was injured as a result of the operation.
