The Sweet Home softball team won its last two games of the regular season in emphatic fashion, beating North Marion 13-0 on the road on Wednesday and then besting Philomath 11-1 at home on Thursday.
The Huskies finished the regular season 8-13 and fourth in the Oregon West Conference.
They have a chance of competing in a road play-in game, as the six highest ranked teams not ranked in the top three in their respective conferences are awarded an away play-in game appearance for a chance to make the OSAA 16-team state tournament bracket.
Stayton, ranked third in the state, finished first in the OWC with a 22-3 record. Cascade (No 12) finished second at 14-6, Newport finished third at 13-11, Philomath finished fifth at 5-19, and North Marion finished sixth at 1-18.
Makayla Guthrie pitched all five innings for Sweet Home against North Marion, allowing just one hit while striking out three and walking two.
Brooke Burke had a big day at the plate, going 3-4 with four RBIs in a line that included a home run, a triple, and a single. Riley Watkins also hit a home run, going 2-3 with two RBIs and a double. Guthrie went 1-4 with two RBIs, and Natalie Smith went 1-3 with two RBIs.
Sweet Home had 15 hits in the game. Both teams committed one error.
Guthrie again pitched a five-inning complete game against Philomath, allowing no earned runs on seven hits while striking out nine and walking one.
Sweet Home outhit Philomath 10-7 in the game. Philomath had six errors while Sweet Home had just two.
Kelsie Rush went 2-2 with two RBIs for Sweet Home. Trinity Victor went 2-3 with an RBI, and Watkins and Katriana Harris each had an RBI as well.
